Why the need?
Over the years as both a player and as a coach, I have noticed a particular deficit from most all youth organizations. GOALTENDERS ARE TRAGICALLY UNDER-COACHED! Unfortunately, there isn't a program that exists that structures itself on the skills of physically teaching the "very basic fundamentals" of the position. This is not necessarily the coaches or parents fault, there just aren't the actual resources in existence to guide an inexperienced goaltending coach. When most coaches plan their practice, they generally do not have the goaltender in mind when constructing drills. This is not just within the younger levels, this happens even at the Junior level and beyond.
What we offer
This program will act essentially as an apprenticeship. We will offer for 15 coaches from various levels to participate within our Certified Goaltending Instructor Program. All coaches that are enrolled in the program will complete 12 hours of on-ice training alongside our professional staff, 4 hours of off-ice board work and video coaching skills, written proficiency test and on-ice proficiency test. Unlike USA Hockey coaching certifications, it will not be a pay and pass type of instruction. We don't believe in certifying an instructor if they are not properly adequate in either their on-ice or off-ice abilities.
How it works
Interested coaches will need to fill out the registration located at the bottom of this page. Once you have given your information and have expressed your interest, a staff member will contact you to collect the following information:
- USA Hockey CEP # (2017-2018 card)
- SafeSport Certification
- Coaching Resume with references
We do believe in protecting the safety and well-being of our players and though some information may seem extensive, it is a requirement.
